A new natural and biodegradable flocculant for wastewater treatment plant sludge settling? Focus on the latest advances in BIOFLOC research

The Win2Wal BIOFLOC research project, funded by the Public Service of Wallonia and carried out by HELMo and the CELABOR Research Centre, aims to develop and validate a process for producing a natural and biodegradable flocculant for the dewatering of wastewater treatment plant sludge, with the goal of ensuring the long-term viability of the agricultural use of this sludge. The flocculant is produced through the fermentation of bacteria in a suitable medium.

👏 After 18 months, the project is showing promising results, with the first successful sludge flocculation trials on municipal wastewater treatment plant sludge carried out by CELABOR.
