The Extraction & Biotechnologies Department develops and implements innovative technologies for the valorization of plant, algal, microbial, and side-stream biomass into high-value ingredients and functional compounds. Leveraging a unique portfolio of green extraction technologies, pressurized processes (supercritical CO₂, subcritical water), process intensification tools (ultrasound, microwave-assisted extraction, pulsed electric fields), and advanced fractionation and purification solutions (adsorption resins, preparative chromatography, molecular distillation, and membrane technologies), we maximize the recovery and purity of target molecules. Our integrated approach ensures enhanced process efficiency, selectivity, and preservation of bioactive compounds, while facilitating the development of scalable, sustainable, and economically viable biorefinery solutions.
Complementing these capabilities, our expertise in enzymatic biocatalysis and fermentation processes (submerged and solid-state) enables the conversion of renewable biomass and industrial side streams into high-value metabolites, bioactive compounds, and bio-based building blocks.
