Poster presented at the conference « Flame Retardants and Fire Behaviour of Textiles and Plastics » organized by Centexbel on the 13th of October in Ghent (Belgium)

We presented the HALO-TEX project with a poster entitled “Development of phosphorylated cellulose as a biobased fire-retardant additive for textile in the frame of HALO-TEX project.”

Within this project, Celabor is responsible, among other activities, for the development of cellulose-based fire-retardant additives, which was the focus of the poster.

The poster presents the development of cellulosic additives grafted with phosphoryl groups, providing flame-retardant properties while facilitating their disintegration into cellulose microfibers (CMF) using a high-pressure homogenizer (HPH).

The reaction conditions (temperature, residence time, reagent-to-cellulose ratio, etc.) and reaction efficiency are evaluated by monitoring the degree of substitution, notably using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, conductometric titration, and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectroscopy.

Preliminary fire tests have demonstrated the effectiveness of these new bio-based fire-retardant additives for textile applications.
