LIKE A PRO Ongoing
Alternative proteins, for everyone and everywhere
LIKE-A-PRO facilitates access to alternative proteins—plant-based, fermentation-derived, or cell-cultured—for a healthier, more sustainable, and tastier diet.
LIKE-A-PRO: Democratizing alternative proteins for a sustainable and healthy diet
The European LIKE-A-PRO project aims to make alternative proteins—plant-based, fermentation-derived, or cell-cultured—more accessible, available, and attractive to everyone. The goal is clear: to support the dietary transition of European citizens toward more sustainable, healthier, and more diverse diets. To achieve this, the project relies on the development of innovative new products, co-creation with consumers within living labs, and ambitious communication campaigns aimed at changing perceptions and behaviors regarding alternative proteins.
Project Objectives
LIKE-A-PRO pursues several key missions:
- Develop 16 new products based on alternative proteins (peas, mushrooms, microbes, krill, etc.) combining taste, nutrition, and sustainability;
- Involve citizens via 11 living labs and 4 real-life food environments to test and co-design these innovations;
- Raise awareness among nearly 8 million European citizens through communication campaigns in 6 countries;
- Support producers, processors, restaurateurs, and distributors to facilitate the production and marketing of these new protein sources;
- Explore new sectors (insects, algae, mushrooms, fermentation) and integrate them into concrete solutions for the food industry.
Expected Impacts
Through its actions, LIKE-A-PRO aims to achieve societal, economic, and environmental effects:
- Democratize alternative proteins by moving them from niche products to mass consumption;
- Promote a more environmentally friendly diet, reducing the carbon footprint and pressure on natural resources;
- Diversify and enrich the food offering to meet consumers' nutritional and taste expectations;
- Create a favorable environment for food chain actors by making production and marketing economically viable;
- Stimulate research, innovation, and social acceptability surrounding new proteins.
