HEMICOAT Ongoing
Conversion of Hemicelluloses into Coatings
Valorization of hemicelluloses from lignocellulosic biomass through extraction and fermentation for the production of bio-based compounds used in the manufacture of coatings, adhesives, and surfactants.
The HemiCoat project has 3 main objectives
- Firstly, the recovery and use of hemicellulose oligomers during the processing of lignocellulosic biomass
- Secondly, the use of sugars (monomers) and other residual compounds in fermentation to produce itaconic acid
- And finally, the development of applications as a building block for the chemical synthesis of surfactants and for use in the manufacture of wood adhesives.
