Development of a bioflocculant production process

The BIOFLOC project aims to develop and validate a production procedure for a bioflocculant consisting of a bacterial consortium, produced under non-sterile conditions on a medium formulated from waste from the industry

Microbial bioflocculants have significant intrinsic flocculation activity; they are non-toxic and biodegradable. The Biofloc project aims to develop and validate a production procedure for a bioflocculant consisting of a bacterial consortium, produced under non-sterile conditions on a medium formulated from waste from the agri-food industry. The bioflocculant produced using this procedure will be easy to implement, will make it possible to obtain sludge with high dry matter content and sufficient mechanical strength to enable subsequent easy mechanical separation of the flocs and the water. The procedure will make it possible to produce a bioflocculant that meets the requirements of the European Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) on the quality of water and sludge from wastewater treatment plants. It will rehabilitate a large quantity of sludge for agricultural recovery, while integrating the principles of the circular economy and short supply chains into the procedure.
