4Sir2 Smoothy: An Innovative Health Drink to Prevent Childhood Obesity

The European 4Sir2 Smoothy project aims to develop an innovative functional drink based on grape or apple juice, specifically designed for overweight or obese children. This drink will be enriched with resveratrol and polyphenols derived from winemaking by-products, natural compounds known for their ability to activate sirtuins, proteins recognized for their role in regulating obesity and metabolism.

Beyond the creation of this unique smoothie, the project intends to sustainably transform practices in the viticulture and fruit processing sectors by implementing environmentally friendly processes based on circular by-product management.

Project Objectives

  • Develop a functional smoothie specifically formulated for obese children, combining taste, nutrition, and accessibility;
  • Enhance the value of vine by-products (grape pomace) as a source of resveratrol and polyphenols;
  • Implement sustainable production processes that limit environmental and climate impact;
  • Offer a healthy and natural alternative to functional drinks currently on the market;
  • Promote healthy eating habits from childhood, with a positive ripple effect on families.
